Be open to your dreams, people. Embrace that distant shore. Because our mortal journey is over all too soon.David Assael

This memorial website was created to remember my beloved daughter Casey Faye Marie Aschan-Cox who was born in Cedar Rapids Iowa on April 8, 1992 and passed away on March 18, 2010 after a courageous life long battle with Muscular Dystrophy.

Casey had many roles in life and she took them each of them very serious. She was the first child, first grandchild and first great grandchild. She was a older sister. She was a niece ,and cousin.

Casey was what some would consider an old soul. She was wise well beyond her years and she accomplished a lot in her short life.

Casey was beautiful, strong, stubborn ,sweet, funny girl. She had so many friends and many people loved her. She was born a beautiful child and turned into a beautiful young woman who by giving love and understanding to others, she found so much love and understanding in return.

Casey had a special way about her that warmed the hearts of everyone who knew her- and the qualities that made her the wonderful person she was. She left a mark on everyone who knew her , and some of those who just knew of her.

Casey was one of the most courageous people I have ever had the privledge of knowing , and loving. She was beautiful - inside and out.. She was sassy. She was a DIVA . She was so smart . She was so strong. She was extremely stubborn. She is so loved and missed. She is and always will be my hero.

Casey was a great older sister and loved her sibilings with all her heart. Even when they were annoying her she still loved them. She tried helping them in every way she could , even if it was just a ear , or a joke to make them laugh.

She loved them like a second mother and would often let them have her opinion on something even if they didnt want to know it. She named her baby brother. She shared the Twilight love with her younger sisters.

She even named her one of her grandpas , he was never grandpa though , she named him Bubba when she was a little girl and it stuck. To this day his nickname is still Bubba.

She was also a mentor to some ,a friend to others and an inspiration to many people who knew her. Some of the people she was an inspiration to had never met Casey but they knew of her.

Casey used her voice to stand up for what she believed in and to help others. She was a big advocate for others who had no voice , or a voice that could not be heard.
She was an amassador for several years for the Muscular Dystrophy Association here in Cedar Rapids and Johnston Iowa. She had Muscular Dystrophy but it never really had her.

Casey's nickname was Turtle. And it wasnt because she was slow. She loved nothing more than getting out and going shopping with her friends and family. She lived for the moment and excitement. She even liked drag racing in her wheelchair at school.

One of Casey's other greatest joys was in the bonds she shared with her friends. Friendship was so important to her and she tried to be the best friend she could. She knew to have a friend you had to be a friend.

She loved her friends almost as much as she loved her family. To her, many of her friends she considered extended family. She loved them , and they loved her.

Her friends were as proud of her for graduating high school as we were. She graduated on March 16th 2010. She was the first in her class to graduate in 2010.

Casey left us way too soon .The 17 years, 11 months, 9 days, 11 hours, 22 minutes we had with her wasn't long enough. We wanted a lifetime with her !

What we are left with are the memories. We will most surely treasure the memories we have of Casey forever.
The presence of Casey's absence is everywhere. Every holiday. Every Birthday. Each and Every Day.

You are forever in my heart and always on my mind. We will love you forever. We will miss you forever in this life until we meet again. Love never dies , and death can not take away love.
